Traditional paths to conflict resolution often require a lot of money and time and can even increase the conflict. Why? Because the goal is to resolve the conflict. If there was no conflict, there would be no disagreement. Mediation gets at what is driving the conflict and helps parties work out their differences so that they both get an agreement they can live with. Also, mediation provides a lev
el of privacy that traditional litigation doesn’t in that you keep your proceedings out of a public court record. Our mediators are highly trained and experienced in providing a unique service - resolving conflict peacefully. Going to court is often characterized as going to war and hiring an attorney as getting an attack dog. That escalates conflict and involves a lot of money, especially if you lose. Also, research has proven that there is a higher level of satisfaction with mediation and that when parties are able to work out their conflict with a trained facilitator, they are much more likely to comply with their agreement and less likely to re-file in dissatisfaction with their agreement. Our mediators have all been working as contract mediators for the Franklin County Court of Juvenile and Domestic Relations and/or the Licking County Court of Domestic Relations and have mediated over 3500 cases. These involve never-married parents, post-decree cases, custody disagreements, divorces, parenting plans, property settlements, etc. All of these reasons plus the savings in dollars and time are good reasons to buck tradition and choose the more enlightened and modern approach to resolving conflicts effectively.
