We recently conducted a focus group in preparation for trial, presenting the case to mock jurors in a structured format that allowed us to evaluate how each piece of evidence may affect our client—both positively and negatively. The focus group was facilitated through our sister company, Criminal Defense Consultants.

Importantly, the process also brought in an outside perspective, with Michigan attorney Mark Satawa providing fresh insight on the case. This collaborative effort among counsel, a private investigator, and support staff allowed for a thorough and confident assessment as we move forward.

Charges Severed in Multi-Accuser Case

We secured a major pretrial victory in a serious sexual assault case involving multiple alleged victims. The State attempted to combine all allegations into a single trial.

We moved to sever, and won.

The issue is simple: when multiple accusations are tried together, the risk of unfair prejudice skyrockets. A jury may begin to stack allegations on top of each other instead of evaluating each one independently.

That’s not how the law works.

This is the same issue we raised with the Ohio Supreme Court last May, challenging the prejudicial impact of trying multiple allegations together. We continue to press that argument at every level.

Here, the court agreed that trying these cases together would create a substantial risk of prejudice. Each allegation must stand—or fall—on its own evidence.

Now, the cases will be tried separately, protecting our client’s right to a fair trial.

Strategic motions matter. Early litigation matters. And protecting constitutional rights always matters.
