Her team went through the plea agreement, the sentencing transcript, the Presentence Investigation Report calculations, the appellate opinion, and prior counsel’s file. She found a sentence computation issue nobody had flagged, and she caught that one avenue we’d been pursuing on our own had actually closed months earlier because of a deadline we didn’t know existed, which saved us from putting more time and money into a dead end. She was kind about it, but she was also clear that two ideas we came in with weren’t going to work, and she explained exactly why. I was grateful for that.
