What happens when an employee complaint is more than just a complaint?

At last week’s SC SHRM State Conference in Myrtle Beach, Turner Padget shareholder Reggie Belcher discussed an issue employers and HR professionals need to understand: protected, concerted activity under the National Labor Relations Act.

Employees may have legal protections when they act together—or, in some circumstances, speak on behalf of coworkers—to address issues such as pay, benefits, scheduling, workplace safety or other working conditions. These protections can apply even in non-union workplaces.

In his latest Insights article, Reggie takes a closer look at what employers should know, including common situations that may implicate Section 7 rights, the role of workplace policies, and practical steps employers and HR professionals can take to reduce risk.

Eliza joins our Charleston office, where she focuses on personal injury defense, premises liability and construction litigation. A South Carolina native, she brings experience from law firms across the state as well as a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Jennifer B. McCoy.

Diana works from our Charlotte and Columbia offices, representing businesses and individuals throughout North and South Carolina in personal injury, premises liability, products liability, business and professional liability defense matters. Before becoming an attorney, Diana spent 10 years as a litigation paralegal—experience that gives her a practical, strategic perspective on every case she handles.

Together, Eliza and Diana add valuable experience and perspective to a litigation team known for its depth and strong reputation throughout the Southeast.

We’re pleased to announce that Columbia shareholder Lanny Lambert has been elected to another term on the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society.

Lanny has been involved with the Society for many years, including serving as its president three years ago. The Society plays an important role in preserving and promoting the history of South Carolina’s judicial system and Supreme Court, documenting the people, cases and traditions that have shaped our state’s legal history.

Lanny was re-elected during the Society’s Annual Meeting on August 10 iheld n the courtroom of the South Carolina Supreme Court in Columbia. His continued involvement reflects his longstanding commitment to South Carolina’s legal profession, its history and the broader community.

We’re pleased to congratulate Charleston shareholder Rich Dukes on his re-election to the Board of Directors of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC) for the 2026–2027 term and his appointment as Co-Chair of the FDCC Evolve – AI and Technology Committee.

In this role, Richard will help lead the committee’s work exploring the legal and practical implications of AI and emerging technologies, including their impact on litigation, risk management and business operations.

Richard was inducted alongside the FDCC’s officers and directors at the organization’s 2026 Annual Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal.
