MU Law Board of Advocates

MU Law Board of Advocates The MU Law Board of Advocates provides law students with opportunities to develop legal skills through advocacy competitions.

The MU Law Board of Advocates (BOA) is a student run organization at the University of Missouri School of Law that provides law students with opportunities to enhance their public speaking and writing skills through practical experience in a variety of advocacy based competitions. BOA coordinates competitions open to all law students such as the Mock Trial, Negotiation, Mediation, and Client Couns

eling. BOA also works with the First Year Advocacy and Research Faculty to coordinate the 1L Moot Court competition. Through participating in BOA competitions, law students gain practical experience as local judges, practitioners, and law faculty assess competitors' performance and provide feedback regarding effective advocacy. The competitions challenge law students to apply classroom theory and problem solving skills to realistic fact patterns. BOA competitions are also a fun way to meet other law students and get involved with your school.

The Mizzou Law Trial Team saw massive success at the National Trial Competition regional in Oklahoma City last weekend! Beating 26 teams from six different states, Team Gold, comprised of Ethan Deimeke, Erick Humphrey, and Rachel Carlson advanced to and won finals, securing their spot in the National Championship in April. There, they’ll face the 23 best teams in the country. Team Black, comprised of Matthew Bukovac, Wolfgang Schafer, and Grace Rowden entered semifinals as the #1 team, where they only narrowly lost their round.

Congratulations to the competitors! Cheering you on as you prepare for Nationals!

We’re incredibly proud to announce the winners of this year’s 2L vs. 3L Moot Court Competition: 2Ls Paige Harris and Luke Nutwell! Congratulations, too, to 3Ls Matt Bukovac and Wolfgang Schafer. It appears that this year, 2Ls reign supreme!

The Board of Advocates is hugely grateful to the Supreme Court of Missouri for judging the competition and hosting our competitors in Jefferson City for the final round. Thanks, too, to Professor Redmon and Professor Henson for helping the Board of Advocates bring this competition back this year. A great success.
