Purchasing a home is a major milestone, and the perfect time to review your estate plan. As your assets and circumstances change, your legal documents should reflect those changes as well.

Take time to review your Deed, Will, Trust (if you have one), Financial Power of Attorney, and Advance Medical Directive to make sure everything is current and aligns with your wishes. You may also want to confirm how your home is titled and whether your estate plan reflects your new property.

Keeping your estate plan up to date can help protect your investment, provide for your loved ones, and make the transfer of your assets as smooth as possible in the future.

If you've recently purchased a home and have questions about updating your estate plan, our team is here to help.

Summer schedules often look very different than the rest of the year. Between vacations, camps, childcare, and family events, a little planning can prevent a lot of unnecessary conflict.

If you have a custody agreement or court order, review it before making travel plans. Some agreements require advance notice, the other parent's consent, or details such as your itinerary, flight information, or lodging before traveling, especially if you're leaving the state or the country.

Beyond vacations, think about how summer plans work together. Before registering for camps or booking trips, coordinate schedules with your co-parent. If a child will be away on vacation for part of a camp week, it may not make financial sense to pay for the entire session. Planning together early can help avoid scheduling conflicts, unnecessary expenses, and last-minute disagreements.

And one final tip: before booking non-refundable flights or accommodations, make sure you've complied with any notice or consent requirements in your agreement.

The earlier you communicate, the more likely everyone, including the kids, will enjoy a smooth and stress-free summer.
