State Farm just handed out $5 billion — the largest cash dividend in its history — to policyholders and shareholders. Meanwhile, their lobbyists have made sure that any Marylander who is catastrophically injured by someone else's negligence hits a limit on what a jury can even award them. Insurance companies are thriving. Injured Marylanders are paying the price.
