South Carolina Association for Justice Advocates for Fairness Under the Law Since then, our mission has been to serve our members and those we are sworn to protect.

Our motto is simple: “Advocates for Fairness Under the Law.”

The South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ) was founded over 50 years ago by a small group of trial lawyers. Over the years, SCAJ has grown into a statewide organization with over 1,200 members but the organization still holds the values of the original founders. We serve as a valuable resource to our members, promoting connections, providing education, presenting value and preserving justice.

We’re proud to share this recent commentary from longtime SCAJ member and Past President S. Randall “Randy” Hood.

In his piece for The Post and Courier, Randy addresses the often-repeated narrative surrounding “frivolous lawsuits” and offers important perspective on the role of trial lawyers, accountability, and our civil justice system.

We appreciate Randy continuing to lend his voice and experience to conversations that directly impact our profession and the South Carolinians we serve.

Read the full commentary below.

South Carolina has heard a lot of talk of frivolous lawsuits, but if state lawmakers really want to lower insurance costs, they should look at the insurance industry, not limit access to courts.

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday Americans who answered tragedy with extraordinary bravery and compassion.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their lives, their sacrifice, and the spirit of unity that brought our nation together.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

This Labor Day, we honor the working men and women whose hard work keeps South Carolina moving forward.

Labor Day began as a movement to improve the lives of American workers, including the fight for safer workplaces, reasonable hours and fair treatment.

For generations, trial lawyers have stood with workers when those protections fail, helping hold wrongdoers accountable and protect the rights of working people.

Because every worker deserves a safe workplace and to return home safely at the end of the day.

Happy Labor Day from the South Carolina Association for Justice.
