Introducing Mary Faith Poteat, our second summer law clerk!
Mary Faith was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. She graduated from Auburn University in 2025 with a degree in Global Studies in Human Sciences and minors in Social Work and Human Development & Family Science.
Long before law school, Mary Faith found herself drawn to the people other systems tend to overlook. Through years of service with vulnerable populations, including asylum-seekers along the US-Mexico border and individuals with disabilities in her local community, she developed a deep passion for advocacy and a belief that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and valued. These experiences shaped her interest in pursuing a career where she could make meaningful change in the lives of children and families navigating the legal system, and convinced her that the most powerful form of advocacy starts with being proximate and present.
Mary Faith is a rising second-year law student at the University of South Carolina School of Law, where she is pursuing a Children’s Law Concentration. She serves as Vice President of the Children’s Advocacy Law Society, Treasurer of the Public Interest Law Society, is a member of the Pro Bono Board, the student division of SCACDL, and is a Certified Guardian ad Litem with Richland County CASA.
Outside of school and work, Mary Faith enjoys creative arts and design, traveling, spending time with friends, and reading.
