A tragic South Carolina case is raising an important legal question: Can multiple people be charged with the same murder—even if prosecutors can’t prove who fired the fatal shot? ⚖️

More than a year after the death of 7-month-old Zymir Smith, authorities have charged two adults and a juvenile with murder and related offenses, while a fourth suspect is still being sought.

South Carolina’s accomplice-liability laws can allow multiple people to face serious charges based on their alleged participation in the same crime.

All charges are allegations, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

🚨 SOUTH CAROLINA LEGAL UPDATE: DUI + LEAVING THE SCENE

A Berkeley County sheriff’s deputy was struck by a vehicle while working a traffic detail in Summerville. Authorities allege the driver left the scene before being stopped by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver reportedly faces charges including DUI and leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury.

⚖️ What does South Carolina law say?
