A notary helps complete a notarial act, not provide legal advice.

A notary can verify a signer’s identity and perform authorized notarial acts, such as witnessing a signature, when required and permitted by law. A notary cannot choose which document you need, draft or change its contents, or advise you about its legal effect.

For your appointment, bring a government-issued ID, and make sure all signers are present. Appointments are required for in-office notary services. Requirements may vary depending on the notarial act and applicable law.
