Happy Veteran’s Day!

Today we remember our founder’s father, Major Don W. Sears, U.S. Army. In 1943, during the final semester of his senior year, Don left college to enlist in the U.S. Army and attend officer candidate school. He served in the 8th Armored Division and earned several distinctions, including two purple hearts and two bronze stars for gallantry and bravery. Don also received several battlefield commissions, and ended his two years in the war theater as a major. After the war, Don returned to Ohio State, where he earned his JD, graduating Order of the Coif. He worked in private practice in Ohio for two years and was re-commissioned as a captain in the U.S. Air Force’s Judge Advocate Corps.

Hollie Wieland and Blair Carter were excited to attend (in-person!) the quarterly meeting of 100 Women Who Care Colorado Springs last night at The Warehouse Restaurant downtown. All three local non-profit organizations who pitched were fantastic but ultimately the Honor Flight of Southern Colorado won the grant.

Twice a year, this organization takes older or terminally ill veterans from WWII, Korean War or Vietnam to D.C. to be honored for their service.

It was a wonderful evening with a big impact. Next meeting is on October 21st. Join us for some speed philanthropy! Together we can make positive changes to our Colorado Springs community.

Sears & Associates, P.C., is excited to announce our new associate attorney, Blair Carter. Blair recently was admitted to practice in Colorado and has experience in energy work from her time at Stoel Rives, LLP, in Seattle, WA.

Blair is a navy veteran and earned her Department of Energy license as a naval nuclear engineer in 2005. She graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Blair earned her spot on the varsity U.S. Navy Women's crew team as a freshman and rowed for Navy for three years. Blair earned her Juris Doctorate from University of Virginia in 2008 where she served as Vice-President for Virginia Law Women. In 2010, she earned her Master in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University while running a government contracting company that focused on developing technology and equipment for naval special forces.

She is licensed to practice law in Washington and Colorado and focuses her practice on personal injury, professional licensing defense, and employment law. We are very proud of our new hire and look forward to Blair’s future at our firm.
