Greely, AK (the end of the Alaska-Canada Highway), and Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD (at the top of the Chesapeake Bay). Now back in Vir

It took forever to find the right house, on the right lot, in the right neighborhood, with the right schools AND for a price I could afford. The Virginia War Memorial is now accepting entries for the 2026 Veterans Day Student Essay Contest, open to all Virginia middle and high school students—including public, private and homeschooled students.

This year’s topic: “A Virginian Who Served in the Military Who Inspires Me.” Essays must be 500–750 words and are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026.
