The summer of 1988, at just 11 years old, I began my journey as a lifelong Democrat. That year, the Democratic National Convention came to Atlanta’s old Omni Arena. Every night, my mom and I watched the speeches on our floor-model TV, and one afternoon she even drove me by the arena to witness the excitement firsthand. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be part of the Democratic Party—the party of the people.

As an adult, I’ve stayed true to that calling—fighting for higher wages, affordable healthcare, safe housing, workers’ rights, and protections for our seniors, youth, and people with disabilities.

For me, being a Democrat has never been just about politics—it’s about people. It’s about making sure every family can thrive, every worker is treated with dignity, and every voice is heard.

That journey, which began with a wide-eyed 11-year-old in 1988, still fuels my "why" today.
