As the peak summer heat starts to quickly approach, I wanted to remind everyone just how important that it is to stay hydrated. This is especially important to remember for the elderly people in our lives who may not be able to remember to do it themselves.
A couple of good tips to staying hydrated and beat the heat.
1. Drink lots of water, try to take in at least a glass of water before bed, first thing in the morning and alongside all of your meals.
2. Know the signs of dehydration- if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated.
3. Avoid alcohol, sugary drinks and caffeine.
4. Be mindful of your activity level, getting activity is wonderful, but with the summer heat remember that the more you sweat the more likely you are to become dehydrated if the electrolytes you are losing are not replaced.
5. Eat a balanced diet, lots of fruits and vegetables as they contain lots of water and can be rehydrating.
6. Carry a water bottle with you to remind you to drink water through out the day.
