I’m excited to announce that The Law Office of Brian Stewart, LLC is moving to our amazing new location at 225 S. Court Street in Circleville. This 200 year old historic home sits in a prime downtown location just steps from the Pickaway County Common Pleas Courthouse, and gives us ample room to grow the practice and better serve the legal needs of our community. I’m also very pleased that The Law Office of Lucas A. Thompson, LLC will be relocating his growing criminal defense practice to the building as well. We look forward to welcoming our new and existing clients to Court Street in the weeks ahead.

I take tough cases others won’t because I hate seeing good people get ripped off. This week I had a Pickaway County bench trial against a pair of corrupt contractors for fraud: verdict for $25k compensatory, $50k in punitive damages, + attorneys fees. Then I had a hearing on a Motion for Temporary Restraining Order: another win, enjoining the sale of real estate that’s part of a swindle.

Woke up early Saturday morning to go help my client, Williamsport Mayor Tim Bush, carry out a mayoral appointment to Village Council. Ohio law lets council fill a vacancy within 30 days. If they don’t, it’s the Mayor’s call. Some folks wanted to ignore that, but we set things right. Congrats to new Council Member Thelma Kate Harrison! I’ve represented locla elected officials in these types of matters for my entire career and it’s one of my favorite kind of cases.

For years I’ve represented a young lady that was sexually abused as a child, in a civil action against her uncle. Last week, after a 2-day trial the jury deliberated less than an hour and returned an award of $600,000 + attorney fees for my client. It’s been an honor to fight for this young family. Thank you to this Pickaway County jury that sent a strong message: child molesters in this community will not only go to jail, they'll be held accountable financially as well.

I love practicing law in Ohio's rural counties, and operating my practice out of Circleville. But there are far too few lawyers practicing in Ohio's rural counties to serve all the legal needs that exist. I spoke to the Columbus Dispatch recently about why more lawyers should look at practicing in smaller communities, and how the State of Ohio is looking to make that transition easier.

Ohio's rural counties have hemorrhaged attorneys, leaving many with too few to represent clients.

Our office spent the week preparing for our plaintiff client’s civil jury trial for breach of contract, fraud, etc. which was to start Monday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. Instead, the defendant made an incredibly significant settlement offer just minutes before jury selection was to begin, which was accepted. Literally 99% of civil cases settle, but sometimes it gets pushed to the absolute limit. Great result.

Our Pickaway County Bar Association recently honored my former law partner John Farthing for reaching his 50th year in the practice of law. John is a great man, an excellent lawyer, & a mentor who gave me opportunities that have allowed my own kids to have a better life. I’ll always be grateful. Former Judge Gary Dumm, Circleville Law Director Gary Kenworthy, current Judge Shelly Harsha, and I are all former partners of John who came out to celebrate his amazing career.

After a 5-day jury trial in Union County this week, The Law Office of Brian Stewart, LLC secured a unanimous verdict for our client’s defense in a defamation action plus we won our client’s abuse of process counterclaim. Altogether, a 6 figure damages award + punitive damages + attorney fees. A grand slam for our client.
