Today my godfather, Melvin Watson, a man I loved as my own dad. 🤍
When my mom passed away in May 2009, he and Mama Linda were there for me. Then, in December 2010, my dad passed away. There I sat—the baby of the bunch—with both of my parents gone.
I will never forget him walking up to me, wrapping his arms around me, and saying, “Lean on me and Linda.”
Those words have stayed with me ever since. In one of the hardest moments of my life, he reminded me that I still had someone to lean on. And I did. I leaned on him and Mama Linda, and they loved me as their own.
When I came home after my divorce, he was there for me again. He told me, “If you need me, call me.” Through another painful chapter, Dad was still making sure I knew I had someone in my corner.
Now, as I grieve his passing, I am holding tightly to those hugs, those words, and the love behind them.
Dad, thank you for being there when I needed you, for making room for my grief, and for loving me through it. I will never let go of the place you hold in my heart.
Mama Linda, I love you dearly. You and Dad gave me shoulders to lean on. Please know that you have mine, too.
Rest peacefully, Dad. I love you, always. 🤍
