After 10 years of providing legal services and advice to my clients, I have taken a position in the public sector. Effective August 19, 2022, The Hutchins Firm and I will no longer provide legal services.

I have always felt blessed and humbled by those that entrusted me with their legal matters and stepping away from private practice was a difficult decision. If I am actively handling a case of yours, we will work to transition you to another attorney. "Mediation as problem-solving requires three things:

(1) a willingness on the part of all the relevant stakeholders to work together to resolve the problem or deal with the situation;

(2) the availability of a trusted “neutral” with sufficient knowledge and skill to manage difficult conversations; and

(3) an agreement on procedural ground rules (i.e., confidentiality, timetable, agenda, good faith effort, etc.). OECD and its NCPs are seriously considering emphasizing problem-solving mediation in the years ahead."

Mediation is often thought of as a last step to adjudicate disputes. In this article, professor Lawrence Susskind spells out the hidden advantages of using mediation early in the process to solve problems and reach voluntary compliance agreements.

We all hear of those crazy after death requests, but did you know that passing on digital assets is becoming more mainstreamed?

No, this doesn't mean you can pass on your followers or even your Netflix account. What it does mean is that you can pass on things like bitcoin; frequent flyer miles (that you own); digital pictures and music (that you own); and funds in your PayPal account.

You can pass some types of digital assets through your will, but most digital assets transfer in other ways, or not at all.

As of April, FEMA began providing financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020 for deaths related to coronavirus (COVID-19) to help ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the pandemic. The policy was finalized 24 March 2021, and FEMA is moving rapidly to implement this funeral assistance program nationwide.
