Many applicants applying for Ohio licenses are told to complete a fingerprint background check — but the instructions are often unclear.
One of the most common points of confusion is the difference between ORC codes and ORI numbers.
Here’s a quick explanation:
ORC Codes
Used when fingerprints are submitted electronically through Ohio’s WebCheck system.
ORI Numbers
Used on ink fingerprint cards (FD-258) to tell the system where the results should be sent.
If the wrong code is used, your background check may not reach the licensing board.
At THE GO TO NOTARY, we help prevent these mistakes by reviewing fingerprint cards and helping applicants route fingerprints correctly.
