Do you own a small business that is an LLC, corporation or other entity that has had business papers filed with a state's Secretary of State? If the entity is not exempt, a new reporting requirement with the federal government starts in January. The government wants to know who owns these businesses. For my Hamilton County, OH friends, the Auditor is sending out notices of updated property appraisals. The real estate market has been hot, so you should expect to see the values go up.

I've included a link to a media release by the Auditor's Office. It explains the appraisal and appeals processes.

Note: Appeals are submitted between January 1 and March 31. Let me know if you want some legal help.
