Some music doesn’t just remind you of a time in your life.

It grows up with you. ❤️

I grew up listening to Ricky Martin. His music was part of the soundtrack of being Latino — family gatherings, parties, roller blading , television… you know the feeling.

But seeing him last night at Ravinia hit differently.

As a Latino gay man, there was something pretty special about watching someone whose music I grew up with now standing on that stage, decades later, living openly and authentically as himself.

And maybe that’s why the night felt like more than just a concert.

It was nostalgia. Pride. Friendship. A perfect Chicago summer night. And thousands of people sitting under the trees at Ravinia sharing the same music and memories.

I even got there early enough to catch a glimpse of sound check. 🎤

Somewhere along the way, Ricky and the rest of us grew up.

Thankfully, the music came with us. 🇲🇽🏳️‍🌈❤️
