“Tommy should be alive today. His death was entirely preventable, and all he needed was adequate medical care. The institutions and individuals responsible for his care had full knowledge of his medical history but did not provide the healthcare he needed. The family of Tommy Ricke, who had known mental health conditions, has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against multiple parties following Tommy’s preventable death at the Elkhart County Correctional Center on May 11, 2025.

Renee Good’s mother, Donna Ganger, testified before members of Congress Tuesday during a forum that examined the impact of multiple fatal shootings by DHS and ICE agents. Sitting next to her son, Brent, Donna described how the loss of Renee is a struggle every day and called for accountability for federal officers.

“What I want most to do today is help everyone understand exactly what was taken from us on January 7th, and what a beautiful woman our family and this country lost. We have not moved on. We struggle every day. We will never, ever be the same,” Donna wrote in her witness testimony. “It’s difficult to balance our gratitude for what a lovely soul Renee was with the anger and confusion at the violent way she died. And the total insanity of it all. She should still be alive. I’ll say that again. My daughter should still be alive.”

Renee Good’s mother told lawmakers her daughter should still be alive after the Minneapolis woman was fatally shot by ICE agents.

Renee Good’s mother and brother will provide testimony at 2:30 pm CT, before a Congressional Forum this afternoon focused on deaths caused by ICE and federal agents. Several other families from around the country will also testify alongside them.

Happy birthday, Lexie.

Lexie Sluder would have turned 21 today. Instead, four years ago, she died a preventable death under the supervision of Department of Juvenile Justice officials in Georgia.

Her family and legal team (R&B Senior Attorney Sam A. Harton and co-counsel Harold Boone, Jr. of The Boone Firm, P.C.) remember her today.
