Lena's bio: My name is Lena Goretsky Winters and I am the principal of Winters Family Law Firm where I practice family law exclusively. over the world how to present a case in the most effective manner to a judge or a jury in an American courtroom. Prior to founding Winters Family Law Firm and becoming an adjunct professor, I practiced family law and criminal defense law in Chicago’s premiere law firms. I have become familiar with state and federal courts and have successfully litigated custody disputes, high stakes divorce cases and white color criminal cases in front of judges and juries. I graduated from Northwestern University School of law in 2003 and received a Masters degree in Linguistics from Northwestern University in 2000. I am originally from Kiev, Ukraine and I am fluent in Russian and have a good command of Spanish. David's bio: I am a trial lawyer with considerable experience in cases not expected to settle before trial or appeal. I have tried to decision numerous cases involving $20 million or more at stake. After spending more than fifteen years representing global corporations in litigation, I left a position as an equity partner at a national law firm to pursue a longstanding personal goal and start my own firm with my wife, Lena. We focus our practice on family law. Together, our mission is to serve our clients with compassion and understanding while delivering optimal results. Lena and I believe in giving back to our community. I have successfully handled numerous pro bono matters throughout my career and will continue to do so as a member of Winters Family Law LLP. Before forming Winters Family Law LLP with Lena, I spoke at conferences and published extensively on legal topics relating to litigation, with a particular emphasis on technology issues. I am an Adjunct Professor at my alma mater, Northwestern University School of Law, where I teach Introduction to Trial Advocacy.

What a week it has been! Our second summer program, Winters Family Law Mini Law School, has come to an end.

Throughout the week, our students met with attorneys who generously volunteered their time to introduce them to a variety of practice areas, including Trusts & Estates, Corporate Law, Criminal Defense, Immigration Law, and more.

Students also toured Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, got to ask questions of college counselors, observed a criminal trial, received an introduction to trial advocacy skills, and even tried their first case at the Daley Center.

We are so proud of their enthusiasm, hard work, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones. Thank you to all of the attorneys, judges, and legal professionals who helped make this experience possible!

A few weeks ago, I did a presentation with Alex Volkov at XHomes Realty to a lovely group of real estate and mortgage brokers. An hour presentation turned into a two-hour lively Q&A on the interrelationship between divorce and real estate. How do you preserve a home sale when the parties are getting divorced? If you have questions, call us!

We are still accepting applications to the Mini Law School summer program for high school students. Here is another parent review: "Thank you very much to you and David for organizing such a wonderful session - it was extremely impactful and broadened the insights on how our legal system works and giving kids a very diverse sneak peek into various areas of law. J. enjoyed it very much and learned quite a bit. Now we just have to wait and see if he chooses law as his future career." M.K. (Parent)."

Deadline for applying to Mini Law School summer program is coming up--April 27. Here is another review from a parent of a student from last year: " An email is not enough to thank you for this wonderful week of mini law school. I'm so impressed with how much A. learned in just one week. I can't imagine what an undertaking it was to coordinate so many amazing experiences. When I first talked with A. about it, he was apprehensive to sign up as he didn't have a passion per se for law. Well, you captivated him and he enjoyed each day. It was so fun to hear about his day. He enjoyed telling us all about the various activities you did. I am a school psychologist, so he found it fun to meet an educational attorney and to learn about guardian ad litems and asked me if I've ever worked with one. You really opened his eyes to what lawyers do and to so many career avenues. A. didn't know anyone but he said he had such a good time getting to know the other students and collaborating with them. He was sad the camp came to an end. He enjoyed the friendly competition and the teamwork atmosphere.I appreciate the emails and details of your day. A. was so impressed with the various undergraduate majors that go into law. Thank you for sharing that with the students. All too often kids think they need to know for certain what they want to do and once they decide there's no changing that. You taught these students so many skills in just one week that they will take with them for years to come. I stumbled upon this camp on a GBN facebook group. I would love for my younger son and daughter to do it in the future should you host it again. Please reach out if you continue this camp. It was such a success for A. Thanks again! Enjoy your weekend!" Z.N.
