Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard attorneys Matthew L. Williams, Eirene N. Salvi, John A. Mennie, and David J. Rashid obtained $21 million for a medical negligence case. A $17 million settlement was obtained in 2023 after a nurse midwife mismanaged the second stage of labor leading to an emergent vacuum delivery, which caused a subgaleal hemorrhage. Plaintiff also alleged a hospitalist supervising the delivery was also negligent. In 2026, the remaining $4 million was obtained due to a physician that did not timely diagnose and treat the subgaleal hemorrhage in the newborn. As a result of the failure to diagnose and treat, the bleed caused hypoperfusion leading to shock and a permanent brain injury.

Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard partner Aaron D. Boeder recently obtained a $500k pre-suit personal injury settlement on behalf of a father and son whose vehicle flipped over and caught fire after being struck by a vehicle that crossed the center line because of a possible drag race. The young boy suffered fractures to his skull and nose requiring surgery and remains disfigured due to surgical scarring. The father suffered a hip dislocation and burns while attempting to rescue his son from the burning vehicle and continues to have pain and disfigurement in his hand.

Birth asphyxia occurs when a baby’s oxygen supply is disrupted in the uterus. Medical personnel are trained to recognize this through fetal heart rate tracing and must intervene immediately to avoid brain injury when it occurs, whether by altering contractions or performing a C-section.

Over the past few years, usage of e-bikes and e-scooters has grown drastically, but with an increase in usage comes an increase in danger. A new bill, Senate Bill 3336 (SB 3336), looks to place safety regulations on “micromobility” transportation in Illinois, which would affect e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-skateboards. The bill recently passed the Senate with a unanimous vote, then passed the House vote, and now awaits a concurrence vote before being signed into law. Click here to read more about SB 3336:
