Faklis, Tallis & Mead is pleased to announce a recent $3,750,000.00 settlement on behalf of our client, who was injured in a motor vehicle collision in Chicago.
Our client sustained neck injuries that resulted in thoracic outlet syndrome requiring bilateral surgery, along with aggravations of preexisting cervical degenerative disc disease and preexisting carpal tunnel syndrome.
The defense argued that the collision was a light-impact event, with minimal vehicle damage and impact speeds under 15 miles per hour, and that our client's injuries could not have been caused by a crash of that magnitude. The defense also challenged whether our client's thoracic outlet syndrome was properly diagnosed before surgery.
We are grateful for the opportunity to advocate for our client and her family, and we hope this settlement provides a measure of security for her future.

Faklis, Tallis & Mead is proud to announce that they obtained a $1,190,000.00 excess verdict in Kane County on September 10, 2025. Michael Mead and Jim Faklis represented our client, who was seriously injured when she tripped over a tangled extension cord left near the exit of the guest services doorway at a hotel in Saint Charles, Illinois. She was simply walking out of work after a long overnight shift, like any of us would, when this preventable hazard changed her life forever.

The defendants argued that they should not be held responsible at all, or that, at a minimum, the jury should find our client 50% at fault so that she would recover very little. They suggested she should have been watching where she was going. But the evidence showed what really happened: the painters created the hazard by leaving their own cord stretched near the doorway, admitted it was theirs, and admitted it was right where someone walking out of that door would naturally step when heading to the exit.

Our client suffered a traumatic shoulder dislocation, a completely torn supraspinatus muscle, a partially torn infraspinatus muscle, a failed surgical repair of her rotator cuff, months of therapy, and ultimately a reverse total shoulder replacement that left her with lifelong pain, weakness, and loss of independence.

The Kane County jury carefully weighed the facts, found that our client was completely free from negligence, and returned Verdict Form A for the plaintiff, holding the defendants fully accountable and stating Plaintiff was free from negligence.

We are deeply grateful to the court and jurors for taking the time to listen to the evidence and deliver justice for our client.

Faklis, Tallis & Mead is pleased to announce that our recent $11,000,000.00 settlement against DuPage County was featured today on the front page of Monday's Chicago Tribune. Special congratulations to Partner, Michael Mead, who is quoted in the Tribune article regarding the settlement. The case involves a 50-year-old mother who died while incarcerated at the DuPage County Jail in June of 2023, allegedly resulting from medical neglect and deliberate indifference to her rapidly declining mental and physical condition by jail staff. We appreciate the Chicago Tribune raising awareness on this issue of how mentally ill people are treated by the justice system while they are in jail, and we hope that this case can help to bring about needed improvement and change.

Faklis, Tallis & Mead is pleased to announce the settlement of $1,200,000 for a client who suffered a full-thickness rotator cuff and labral tears requiring two surgeries, aggravation of L5-S1 disc herniation, and a concussion necessitating neurological treatment from a rear-end crash. Before the lawsuit, the defendant for the lawsuit offered $325,000.00 to attempt to resolve the claim, but our client trusted our office and filed a lawsuit based on our recommendation. Faklis, Tallis & Mead is pleased to announce a settlement of $2,100.000.00 for the family of a 68-year-old woman who suffered a cardiac arrest and anoxic brain injury during a pain management procedure. The woman later died as a result of her injuries and the case was brought by her three adult children against the anesthesiologist and pain management doctor for allegedly failing the monitor the patient and performing a contraindicated procedure based on the patient’s weight. This case was defended up to trial and was settled after jury selection. Special congratulations to Jim Faklis and Michael Mead for their efforts taking this case to trial and obaining the settlement.

Faklis, Tallis & Mead appreciates the Chicago Tribune bringing attention to the plight of how the mentally ill are treated at jail. Partner, Michael Mead, represents Cristal Moreno Aguilar and the family regarding the death of her mother at the DuPage County Jail in June 2023. The Tribune addresses the injustice of what happened to Crystal's mom and to others while incarcerated. We hope this article and the lawsuit we filed on behalf of the family lead to real change in how the mentally ill are treated by the justice system and while they are in jail.
