U.S. Entry Update

CBP is moving away from the routine use of admission stamps during primary processing.

Your I-94 record remains important proof of your admission and authorized stay. Remember to check your I-94 online following each U.S. admission at: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/home Entry stamps may still be issued in certain circumstances or upon request.

Travel tip: Make sure your admission information is accurate and keep a copy of your I-94 for your records.

IMPORTANT & TIME-SENSITIVE: New Version of the I-864 Published by USCIS – NO Grace Period
On August 31st, USCIS published a new edition of Form I-864, Affidavit of Support, with an edition date of August 24, 2026. USCIS will not provide a grace period and will only accept this edition of the form beginning August 31, 2026. Old editions will be rejected with no grace period.

A New Pause in Consular Interviews Despite the Win in Federal Court
The Trump administration has temporarily paused immigrant visa appointments worldwide while consular officers receive new training on evaluating whether visa applicants could become dependent on U.S. public benefits. The move comes after a federal judge blocked a separate 75-country visa ban and is part of a broader push to tighten legal immigration. The administration is also targeting some asylum applicants with visa revocations and proposing a $103,265 fee for employers using the H-1B skilled-worker program. The changes are likely to face continued legal challenges as the administration reshapes U.S. immigration policy.

75-Country Visa Ban Deemed Illegal
A federal judge has struck down the Trump administration’s policy blocking immigrant visas for people from 75 countries, ruling that it violated federal immigration law by discriminating based solely on nationality.
The decision vacates visa denials made under the policy and restores case-by-case review for affected applicants. Immigration advocates say the ruling could help reunite families and ensure lawful immigration decisions are based on individual circumstances—not nationality.

New Public Charge Guidance to Take Effect on September 18, 2026

USCIS is updating its “public charge” guidance effective Sept. 18, 2026. The new guidance explains who is subject to public charge inadmissibility grounds, the factors USCIS will consider, including age, health, family status, finances, education, and skills, and how certain public benefits may be evaluated. Some immigration categories remain exempt, and eligible applicants may be invited to post a public charge bond. The guidance applies to covered Form I-485 applications submitted on or after Sept. 18th. The U.S. Department of State has established a new Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force to combat the alleged misuse of nonimmigrant visas.

Working with DHS, the Task Force is identifying birth-tourism activity, targeting networks that profit from it, and taking action against visa holders who abuse the visa process. The Department reports that more than 600 visas have already been revoked as part of these efforts. The announcement also highlights cases involving misrepresentation of travel purposes, falsified or concealed information, and other efforts to circumvent U.S. immigration laws.

The task force is reviewing visa-holder activity and travel histories and coordinating information with DHS and other federal agencies. The Department says it is working to identify and dismantle for-profit networks that facilitate birth tourism, including those allegedly involved in visa coaching or misrepresenting travel purposes.
