Please be advised that our phone system is currently down due to the global Verizon outages. It is unclear when our phones will be operational again. Judge Carney and Judge Lund of Will County were not reappointed and will be removed from the bench as of June 30, 2023. Will County will be appointing two new judges as soon as possible. If you are a client and your case is in front of either Judge Carney or Judge Lund, my office will keep you informed of the situation.

Starting January 31, 2022, all litigants can bring their cell phones into the Will County Courthouse.

A new courthouse administrative order will allow visitors bring in “portable electronic devices” such as cellphones, smartphones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, electronic calendars and electronic books.

An interesting issue is arising for divorced couples who co-parent their children and the CARES act stimulus payments. The IRS is attempting to determine the best way to treat the $500 per child stimulus payment for divorced couples who would typically both be eligible to claim their child on their individual tax returns. In these cases, the parents typically alternate who claims the child every other year, unless some other arrangement is agreed upon. However, since the stimulus payments are a one-time payment, it is causing some confusion on who should get the $500 and how.

Parents who are divorced or never married may end up getting two checks for the same kid, according to new instructions from the IRS.

An important program was announced yesterday to help domestic abuse survivors while the stay at home order remains in place. If you need a safe place to stay, call the hotline and it will secure a hotel room for you, free of charge.

The program comes as Chicago has seen a significant increase in reports of domestic violence amid the pandemic.

Governor Pritzker is appealing the Clay County Circuit Court's decision to grant a temporary restraining order for Representative Bailey. Despite earlier reports, the temporary restraining order only bars the government from enforcing the stay at home order against Representative Bailey. The extension is still taking effect as of May 1, 2020.
