For the first time, two survivors are speaking publicly about the sexual abuse they say they endured as children inside the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center.

Both women told CBS News Chicago they were just 15-years-old and pregnant when they were sexually assaulted by staff members while in custody.

Their stories are part of a much larger reckoning. Hundreds of former residents — both girls and boys — have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse by detention center staff spanning decades, with approximately 400 lawsuits now filed against the detention center, Cook County, and the Cook County Chief Judge’s Office.

GGH is leading the litigation on behalf of survivors and continues to investigate how alleged abuse was allowed to persist inside a facility responsible for protecting children in its custody.

Chicago was home base for the trial bar this summer — and GGH was glad to be part of it.

From taking the stage to connecting with colleagues from across the country, the 2026 AAJ Annual Convention was a chance for our team to contribute to the conversations moving our profession forward — right here in our hometown.

Founding Partners Martin Gould, Michael Grieco, and Bryce Hensley took the stage throughout the convention, sharing insights from their work leading complex litigation and advocating for survivors and injury victims nationwide.

The convention also marked two special recognitions: Martin was elected Vice Chair of AAJ’s Child Sexual Abuse Litigation Committee, and Mike received the Evergreen Recognition for his continued commitment and contributions to AAJ.

We’re grateful to the American Association for Justice for another impactful convention and to everyone who spent part of the week with GGH.

New details are raising serious questions about the death of GGH client Bluesky Thomas while in the care of Sonora Behavioral Health Hospital.

GGH Partner Jennifer Cascio spoke with The Arizona Republic about newly released records surrounding Thomas’ death. Jennifer said his injuries were comparable to those sustained in a high-speed car crash or severe physical assault — not a fall or seizure.

The medical examiner ruled Thomas’ death a homicide, yet a manslaughter charge against a former hospital employee in connection with his death was dismissed after a judge found insufficient evidence to move the criminal case forward.

GGH represents Thomas’ family in its forthcoming civil case against Sonora Behavioral Health and its parent company, Acadia Healthcare, as they continue to seek answers and accountability.

A Michigan court has denied Sinai Grace Hospital’s attempt to have key claims dismissed in lawsuits brought by dozens of women who say they were sexually abused by a former hospital nurse.

The hospital asked the court to treat the allegations as a medical malpractice issue rather than sexual abuse. It also argued that it could not have reasonably anticipated the alleged abuse and tried to have its parent company removed from the lawsuits. The judge rejected those arguments, allowing all claims against both the hospital and its parent company to move forward.

GGH represents more than 20 survivors who have come forward with allegations involving this former Sinai Grace employee.

This ruling is an important step forward in the pursuit of accountability — and in seeking answers about what the hospital knew, when it knew it, and whether more could have been done to protect patients.

READ NOW: GGH attorney Jamie Majerus was featured on the front page of The Carmel Pine Cone in Monterey, California discussing a lawsuit GGH filed on behalf of a survivor who alleges she was groomed and sexually abused by her former high school principal.

As Jamie told the newspaper:

"This action was brought when the survivor was able to come forward and pursue justice, and we intend to let the evidence speak for itself in court."

A lawsuit filed by GGH against the Diocese of Springfield was recently featured by NPR Illinois.

The lawsuit is the first public allegation of sexual abuse against a former Springfield priest who had not previously been publicly linked to abuse claims. It was filed on behalf of a man who alleges he was sexually abused while serving as an altar boy and attending St. Mary's Catholic School in Taylorville. The complaint further alleges the Diocese knew or should have known of the abuse and failed to protect children.

As Founding Partner Michael Grieco told NPR Illinois: *"This was about power and access. A priest took advantage of his authority to abuse a child while the Church looked the other way."*
