VETERANS DEADLINE AUGUST 1ST!
The VA Clothing Allowance is an annual, tax-free payment of $1,053.19 designed to help veterans replace or repair clothing damaged by service-connected braces, prosthetics, or prescribed skin medications.
To qualify, you must submit VA Form 10-8678 by August 1 of the benefit year.
Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for this allowance, all of the following must be true:
You have a service-connected disability.
You wear or use a VA-prescribed prosthetic or orthopaedic device (e.g., wheelchair, rigid back/knee brace, or artificial limb),
OR you use a prescribed skin medication for your service-connected condition.
Your device causes irreversible wear and tear, or the skin medication causes irreparable staining to your outer garments. Items considered in clothing allowance decisions include shirts, skirts, pants, and blouses. (Underwear, socks, shoes, and hats do not qualify).
Benefit Rates and Limits: Veterans can receive more than one allowance (up to a maximum of four) if they require multiple qualifying devices or medications that damage different types of garments. The maximum number of eligible devices is four per year.
How to Apply and Deadlines: To receive the allowance for a given year, you must apply on or before August 1.
Payments are typically disbursed between September 1 and October 31. If your medical condition does not change and you have previously been approved, you generally do not need to reapply; the payment will automatically renew each year. However, you must submit a new application if your situation changes or if you are claiming additional allowances.
