Children notice more than adults think they do during a divorce.
They notice:
✔ tension
✔ silence
✔ arguments
✔ changes in routine
✔ stress in the home
✔ when parents speak badly about each other
Even when adults believe:
“They’re too young to understand.”
Children often absorb far more emotionally than people realize.
And one of the biggest misconceptions in family law is thinking custody battles only affect the parents involved.
The emotional impact on children matters too.
That’s why courts often focus heavily on:
• stability
• communication
• co-parenting behavior
• consistency
• the child’s overall wellbeing
Divorce and custody situations are emotional enough without children feeling like they’re caught in the middle of adult conflict.
Sometimes the healthiest thing parents can do is pause and ask:
👉🏽 “How does this situation feel from the child’s perspective?”
Because kids may not always say what they’re feeling…
…but they usually feel it.
💬 What do you think helps children most during divorce:
Consistency?
Peace between parents?
Honest communication?
Something else?
