On Labor Day we celebrate the working men and women whose skill, determination, vision and hard work have built our Chicagoland communities and continue to move them forward.

Here in Chicago, Labor Day has a particularly important meaning. Our city played a historic role in the birth of the American labor movement. From the fight for the eight-hour workday to the events surrounding Haymarket, Chicago became a national center for workers seeking safer conditions, fair treatment, and dignity on the job.

That history remains part of Chicago’s identity—a city built by generations of tradespeople, construction workers, first responders, transportation workers, factory workers, service employees, professionals, and countless others who show up every day and do the work that keeps our city moving.

At Keating Law Offices, we are proud to call Chicago home and proud to represent hardworking people and their families when an injury changes their lives.

On this Labor Day, we honor those who came before us, those working today, and the enduring principle that every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of the day.

Happy Labor Day from all of us at Keating Law Offices.

Keating Law Offices was proud to once again support the Active Transportation Alliance’s Bike the Drive, one of Chicago’s signature bicycling events.

Firm founder and Chicago bicycle attorney Mike Keating was out there for the day, joining thousands of bicyclists for the rare opportunity to experience Lake Shore Drive on two wheels — without motor vehicle traffic.

For Keating Law, supporting Bike the Drive is about more than sponsoring an event. It reflects the firm’s longstanding commitment to Chicago’s bicycling community and to the work of the Active Transportation Alliance to make our streets safer and more accessible for people walking, biking, and rolling.

As the founder of IllinoisBicycleLaw.com, Mike has spent his career representing injured bicyclists, advocating for cyclists’ rights, and educating riders about the laws designed to protect them.

There are few better reminders of what Chicago can look like when we make space for bikes than seeing thousands of riders take over Lake Shore Drive.

Congratulations to the Active Transportation Alliance on another great Bike the Drive — and thank you to everyone who rode, volunteered, organized, and supported the event.

Ride safe. Know your rights. Keep Chicago moving.

Regulating e-bikes was a necessary step in Illinois. The technology and ridership outpaced the current legislation and the correct action was to implement specific legislation regarding e-bikes. The next step is for police departments to actually enforce these new laws.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Alex Blacio.

A tragic collision on Chicago's North Side claimed the life of a 16-year-old e-scooter rider. Chicago law gives e-scooter riders the same legal protections as bicyclists, including the right to three feet of passing distance and motorists' duty to exercise due care. Keating Law discusses the legal issues surrounding this heartbreaking crash and the rights of injured e-scooter riders.

Today is the Elgin Classic honoring Dennis Jurs. Dennis was a great man, a Vietnam veteran who turned to bicycling to rehab his injuries while serving. Tragically, Dennis was killed on a training ride. "Dennis's Law" in Illinois changed Illinois law to ensure that all bicyclists are treated as "vehicles" under the law and given the same rights as the operators of motor vehicles. It was a great honor to represent the Jurs family and help ensure that Dennis's life is remembered.

To paraphrase Dennis's Law: Bicyclists have the same rights and are subject to the same rules as motorists on Illinois roadways. Unfortunately, it took the death of an avid Illinois bicyclist and Purp...

This is a great point, a lot of what people refer to as "e-bikes" are actually electric motorcycles. They are not bicycles at all and some don't even have pedals. New legislation from the State of Illinois will regulate electric bicycles and motorcycles more clearly and require licenses for electric motorcycles.

🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day from Keating Law! 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation and the enduring ideals that have guided America for 250 years—freedom, justice, and the rule of law.

As we commemorate America 250, we also recognize that our communities are strongest when our streets are safe for everyone who uses them. At Keating Law Offices, we are proud to stand with the people who ride, walk, and advocate for safer streets throughout Chicago and Illinois. Every day, we fight to hold negligent drivers accountable and to protect the rights of those who have been injured.

Whether you’re celebrating with family, watching fireworks, riding your bike, or traveling across Illinois this holiday weekend, we encourage everyone to look out for one another. Slow down. Stay alert. Give cyclists at least three feet when passing. Watch for pedestrians in crosswalks. Small acts of care save lives.

From all of us at Keating Law, we wish you a safe, joyful, and meaningful Fourth of July.

Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸🚴
