Frank Pietrangelo, Stanley Cup Champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins joins the federal Complaint filed in Minnesota against Defendants Thomas “Chico” Adrahtas, the University of Minnesota, the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois (AHAI), and USA Hockey. The Complaint, filed on May 12, 2021, stems from Adrahtas’ sexual assaults of hockey players while employed as the Assistant Coach for UMN’s Men’s Varsity Hockey Team in 1984-1985. UMN was aware of his sexual assaults but did not investigate or report Adrahtas. Instead, UMN allowed Adrahtas to resign as part of an elaborate plan to cover up Adrahtas’ assaults and protect the University’s reputation.
Adrahtas went on to coach amateur hockey in Illinois, assaulting countless other players, for almost 40-years until he received a lifelong ban by the U.S. Center for SafeSport in 2021. The Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois and USA Hockey were aware of his assaults in 2010, and possibly as early as 1989, yet failed to adequately investigate or report Adrahtas, allowing him to continue preying on teenage boys.
Check out Frank Pietrangelo's interview with CBS Chicago's Dave Savini below.
