If you're preparing an independent contractor or vendor agreement for signing, the most common failure point isn't the signature, it's the scope of work.

The extra minute spent carefully reviewing a signer's credential is the cheapest insurance in this job. Most of the problems that surface after a signing trace back to something that was visible on the ID at the time.

The VIN gets the attention. These three are what actually stop a vehicle transfer after it:

The odometer reading, recorded accurately, federal law requires a mileage disclosure on most transfers, and it isn't waived because the parties know each other.

Buyer and seller names matching their identification exactly, not approximately.

Witness requirements, which vary by state. A few states want a witness on a vehicle transfer in addition to the notarization, and that's worth confirming before the session rather than during it.
