Happy Saturday! ☀️ It is an absolutely beautiful day here in the Hudson Valley!

Starting my morning at Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, assisting a client with a Power of Attorney, and later today I’ll be switching hats to perform a wedding ceremony under my second business One Love Ceremonies & Events. 💍

One thing about being self-employed, no two days ever look quite the same! 🥰

When it comes to notarizing documents for an elderly loved one, there are important rules that protect everyone involved.

A signer must be able to:
✔️ Understand what they’re signing.
✔️ Sign of their own free will.
✔️ Answer questions without being coached or pressured.

Even if the document is something as important as a Power of Attorney, a notary cannot proceed if the signer doesn’t have the mental capacity to understand what they’re signing. In those situations, the appropriate legal process may involve seeking court authority, depending on the circumstances.

These safeguards are there to help prevent fraud and protect vulnerable individuals.
