Delays in new firefighting apparatus and parts deliveries, along with dramatically rising costs, are affecting fire departments nationwide. The Cherry Hill Fire Department faces these same challenges, with fire trucks that are often older than the firefighters operating them.

Our CHFD Motor Maintenance mechanics, proud members of International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2663 alongside your Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters, work tirelessly to keep our fleet operational and serving our community. However, these soaring costs and multi-year apparatus delivery delays remain a growing concern for fire departments everywhere. We thank the IAFF for their continued advocacy on this critical issue at the national level.

In the summer of 2023, a third of the fire engines owned by the fire department in Kansas City, Kansas, were unusable. Five of 15 pumper trucks were out of commission, and the department was waiting on parts from the manufacturer. So Kansas City fire officials went on a nationwide hunt for trucks. B...

🚒🚒 Fallen Tree Brings Down Live Power Lines, Igniting Several Vehicles 🚒🚒

On Monday afternoon, August 4, 2026, your "B" Platoon Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters from Rescue Ladder 13, Engine 1322, and Battalion 13 responded to Frontage Road in the area of The Grand Apartment buildings for a reported tree down which also took down live electrical wires and ignited several vehicles on fire.

✅ All vehicles were thankfully unoccupied.
✅ There are no reported injuries.

We'd like to remind the public:

⚠️ Stay far away from downed power lines — always assume they are live and dangerous.
⚠️ If you see downed lines or sparking wires, call 9-1-1 immediately.
⚠️ Never attempt to move a downed line or touch anything it's in contact with.

🚒🚑 Retirement of Assistant Fire Chief Tim McGeady 🚒🚑

After more than 36 years of dedicated service to the fire service and 32 years of career service with the Cherry Hill Fire Department, Assistant Fire Chief Timothy A. McGeady will retire from active duty effective August 1, 2026. His last day with the department is today Friday, July 31st.

Chief McGeady's journey began in May 1990 as a volunteer with the Deer Park Fire Company and on August 15, 1994, he made history as the first full-time Firefighter hired within the newly consolidated Cherry Hill Fire Department. He retires today as the most senior uniformed member of the department.

Your Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters congratulate Chief McGeady on a truly distinguished career and thank him for his decades of service to our union, department, and community.

🔴⚪ Winslow Township HAZMAT Response ⚪🔴

On the night of Sunday, July 26th into the early morning hours of Monday, July 27th, "A" Platoon firefighters from Squad/HAZMAT 13 and Safety 13 responded to Winslow Township as part of a large-scale mutual aid operation involving a commercial structure fire and hazardous materials incident.

The Winslow Township Fire Department and mutual aid companies were dispatched to a large commercial building in the Blue Anchor section for a reported structure fire. After the fire was extinguished, a chemical odor was detected — later identified as an ammonia leak. A Camden County Level 3 Hazardous Materials response was activated, bringing together a regional task force including hazardous materials technicians from the Cherry Hill Fire Department and several other agencies.

Your CHFD hazmat technicians worked side by side with regional partners to establish air monitoring, mitigate the ammonia leak, and conduct full scene decontamination and medical monitoring of all operating personnel. At no time was there a threat to the surrounding community.

Did you know that approximately 75% of your Cherry Hill professional firefighters are also trained as hazardous materials technicians? Incidents like this highlight exactly why regional cooperation, specialized training, and continued public safety investment matter. When the call came, our members were ready.

Camden County now reports the fastest average 911 EMS response times in New Jersey, and your Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters work hard every day to help keep those times low and care arriving quickly for our neighbors.

A few important points about how we support those outcomes:

🚒 While most EMS calls in Cherry Hill do not require a fire truck and are handled dozens of times a day by EMTs from the Cherry Hill Fire Department's EMS Division and Virtua Health Paramedics, ALL Cherry Hill Fire Department firefighters are trained as EMTs or paramedics and ready to provide skilled medical care when its needed most.

🚒 Fire apparatus are dispatched to serious medical emergencies or when ambulance arrival may be delayed, ensuring citizens receive a rapid, highly skilled response every time.

🚒 As Cherry Hill continues to grow into South Jersey’s leading healthcare hub — with healthcare jobs and facilities forming the backbone of our local economy — our firefighters are proud to support the added emergency-service needs that growth brings.

🔥🚒 A-PLATOON FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO WEST SIDE DWELLING FIRE 🚒🔥

Shortly before 6:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026, your A‑Platoon Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters were dispatched to a dwelling on the 400 block of Narragansett Drive. Arriving units found a well‑involved and rapidly advancing fire, which prompted an “all hands” response.

The fire remains under investigation by the Cherry Hill Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.

🚨 B-PLATOON RESPONDS TO DUMP TRUCK VS. OVERHEAD WIRES 🚨

On Thursday, July 16, 2026, your B-Platoon Cherry Hill Fire Department Professional Firefighters from Engine 1342, Rescue Ladder 13, Squad/HAZMAT 13, and Battalion 13 responded to the area of Evesham and Cropwell Roads for a motor vehicle accident involving a dump truck.

Upon arrival, crews found a dump truck that had become entangled in overhead utility wires. Our members stabilized the vehicle and worked to contain a fuel leak coming from the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

🚒 B-PLATOON STOPS WELL-INVOLVED DWELLING FIRE 🚒

On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, your B-Platoon Cherry Hill Professional Firefighters responded to the 300 block of Windsor Drive for a reported dwelling fire.

Upon arrival, crews were met with a rapidly advancing fire involving the dwelling and a vehicle parked in the driveway . Thanks to a rapid response and an aggressive fire attack, our firefighters were able to achieve quick extinguishment, preventing further spread and more significant damage to the home.

Thank you to the Pennsauken Fire Department and Mount Laurel Fire Department/ Laurel Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 4408 for fire ground support.

The incident remains under investigation by the Cherry Hill Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.
