Create opportunities for honest conversations and remind your loved one that their concerns matter.

⚠️ A small area of irritated skin can become a serious medical problem for someone with limited mobility.

Residents who spend extended periods in a bed or chair may need regular repositioning, skin checks, proper nutrition, hydration, and appropriate wound care to reduce the risk of pressure injuries.

Families should not be afraid to ask when a wound was first noticed, how it is being treated, whether it is improving, and what steps are being taken to prevent additional injuries.

When a vulnerable resident cannot easily reposition themselves, they depend on caregivers to provide the attention their condition requires.

💙 October is Residents’ Rights Month, an important reminder that moving into a nursing home does not mean giving up your voice, independence, or dignity.

Residents deserve to be treated with respect, participate in decisions about their care, communicate with family and friends, raise concerns without fear, and live in an environment where their health and safety are taken seriously.

For families, knowing these rights matters too. When you understand what your loved one should be able to expect from their care, you are better prepared to recognize when something is wrong and advocate on their behalf.

Every resident deserves to feel safe, respected, and heard.

📋 A nursing home resident's needs today may look very different from their needs six months from now.

Changes in mobility, cognition, medications, nutrition, or overall health can create new risks that require additional support.
