Stevie Phillips named SuperLawyers “Rising Star”: I have tremendous respect for my colleagues in the criminal bar. That’s why the SuperLawyers Mid-South “Rising Star” distinction is meaningful to me. Once a year, lawyers are invited to nominate the top attorneys in their state who they have personally observed in action. Only 2.5% of attorneys receive the “Rising Star” distinction. 2022 is my sixth year to be named to this list. It’s an honor to be recognized by my peers, who I admire so much, and a privilege to serve our region.

Law enforcement officers say that they have long shouldered the heavy responsibility of fielding calls from Georgians who need mental health support. We are so excited about our new, downstairs neighbors! Come check out Kenny’s renovations to this beautiful, historic space. And, of course, eat some delicious food.

Almost a year after Porker's Bar-B-Que shuttered its doors on Market Street, a new sandwich shop has opened in its place, giving downtown employees a new week day lunch and breakfast spot to frequent.

I'm very proud to be a Tennessee lawyer. And appparently, I still qualify as a "young," Tennessee lawyer. Thank you to the Tennessee Bar Association Young Lawyers Division for featuring me in this month's attorney spotlight. And a big thanks to Troy Weston for the nomination and Justin Faith for writing the article.

November 2017 YLD Attorney Spotlight ⚖️🔦👩‍⚖️ – Stevie Phillips

This year the Tennessee Bar Association Young Lawyers Division will be recognizing its outstanding members each month by featuring them in the Tennessee Bar Association YLD Attorney Spotlight. We are excited to announce our Attorney Spotlight for November 2017 is Stevie Phillips!

Stevie Phillips is a trial lawyer specializing in criminal defense. Phillips, a Chattanooga native and Baylor School alumna, recently opened her own law firm, Stevie Phillips Law, PLLC, where she’s one of Chattanooga’s only female, criminal defense attorneys practicing in state and federal court. Phillips earned her B.A. in History and Spanish, summa cm laude, from Loyola University New Orleans. She then went on to the University of Tennessee College of Law, where she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Tennessee Journal of Law and Policy, participated in the Legal Advocacy Clinic legal advocacy clinic, and graduated with honors in 2008. After law school, Phillips spent two years as a Judicial Clerk for Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Janice M. Holder, and then served one year as a Judicial Clerk for Judge Bernice B. Donald of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee and of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Phillips has also taught classes on judicial opinion writing as a legal consultant with the International Law Institute in Monrovia, Liberia.

Stevie Phillips is licensed in Tennessee and California, and she is barred in the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Tennessee and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to opening her own law firm this year, Stevie Phillips practiced in many high profile cases with Davis & Hoss, P.C., in Chattanooga for five years, and most recently she served as a white collar, Federal Prosecutor in Fresno, California. Phillips has contributed to public and private organizations dedicated to advancing social justice both locally and abroad, including the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Amicus Committee and the American Bar Association’s Section on Individual Rights and Responsibilities. She is also actively involved in various organizations such as the Mayor’s Women’s Council for Justice, Inns of Court, the AIM Center, and the Southeastern Tennessee Legal Association for Women (SETLAW). Phillips has achieved numerous successful jury verdicts for both her criminal and civil clients, including winning an award of over one-half million dollars to a group of Chattanooga police officers in 2016. When Stevie’s not busy running her successful law practice, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Please join us in congratulating Stevie Phillips as this month’s Tennessee Bar Association YLD’s Attorney Spotlight!

Please send nominations for the December 2017 YLD Attorney Spotlight to Justin Faith at [email protected].

I have had the pleasure of working with Chief David Roddy in one capacity or another for over five years now. His commitment to public service is unparalleled. As it turns out, he is also quite eloquent. I saw more than one grown man shed a tear when he spoke of his moral compass - his wife Shannon. Chattanoogans are lucky to have him as their new Police Chief. Congratulations, Chief Roddy!
