The TAKE IT DOWN Act is a critical step forward in protecting people from the trauma of AI-generated explicit images-- but there's a conversation that can't be glossed over with this.
As laws get stronger, so do the consequences—and not just for adult predators, but for teens and kids who may not realize the seriousness of their actions and cross a line they didn't realize was as big of a deal as it is. Creating, sharing, or distributing explicit images—real or AI-generated—of someone else isn’t a joke. It’s not “funny.” It’s harmful. And now, it can lead to serious legal trouble, even if a teen didn’t fully understand what they were doing.
It's vital that families are having conversations about this. If you aren't framing this for your kids and helping them understand their actions and consequences, something else is shaping their understanding of it for them instead.
This is the moment for families to talk.

- Why creating AI nudes of someone is never okay-- and never harmless
- How easy it is to dehumanize others online
- The lifelong impact this can have on victims and ALSO on those who make poor choices
The internet makes it easy to forget that there’s a real person on the other side of the screen. But respect, empathy, and accountability matter—especially now.
Let’s be clear about what’s abusive, stand with victims, and equip the next generation to choose respect over harm.
