The Federalist Society at UVA Law

The Federalist Society at UVA Law Nonpartisan org at UVA Law dedicated to debate, discussion, & the promotion of judicial restraint! 💥

The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservatives, moderates, and libertarians interested in the current state of the legal order. It is founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the l

aw is, not what it should be. The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities.

Last week, we were thrilled to host our 6th Annual Originalism Symposium at the University of Virginia School of Law with a timely and interesting topic ➖ “Unwritten Law: Bridging Originalism and the General Law.” And it was excellent.

🎥You can find all the recordings and panel descriptions here: https://fedsoc.org/conferences/uva-originalism-symposium-unwritten-law-bridging-originalism-and-the-general-law.

Later that day, student members and faculty capped things off with our Spring Banquet. Professor Jud Campbell of Stanford Law School gave a keynote on how tradition and general law interact with the three stages of originalism.

🏆 Professor Solum won the Paul G. Mahoney Award. Faith Chudkowski ‘25 and David Bainbridge ‘26 won the inaugural Lillian R. BeVier Award.

Thanks to our speakers, The Federalist Society, attendees, and all who continue to support our chapter and engage with these ideas!
