🚨 SOUTH CAROLINA DUI LAW: IGNITION INTERLOCK 🚨

A quick summary of S.C. Code Section 56-5-2990:

• Drivers convicted of DUI in South Carolina must install an ignition interlock device to obtain restricted driving privileges.

• The device requires a breath sample before the vehicle will start.

• First offense DUI convictions generally require a 6-month interlock period.

• Higher BAC levels and repeat offenses can significantly increase the required interlock time.

• Drivers are responsible for installation costs, monthly monitoring fees, and compliance requirements.

• Missed calibrations, failed breath tests, tampering allegations, or driving a vehicle without the device can result in additional penalties or extensions.

• Interlock requirements can impact both the criminal case and driving privileges.

If you are charged with DUI, understanding the license consequences early is critical.
