National Drunk & Drugged Driving Prevention Month, or National 3D Prevention Month, is an annual designation observed in December. If you’re home or traveling during the holidays, you may be planning to go to a few parties, get-togethers, or even just to have a few drinks with the family. If you have been drinking or are under the influence of drugs, do not operate a vehicle. Remember, you are committing the crime of impaired driving whenever your ability to operate a vehicle is impaired by effects of illegal drugs, prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, or a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 grams per deciliter or higher. If you are taking part in activities like this month, or EVER, do not make the mistake of getting behind the wheel. It could cost you or someone else their life.
So, why now? The time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day is described by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals as “One of the deadliest and most dangerous times on America’s roadways due to an increase in impaired driving.” This month we are all encouraged to drive sober, and defensively.

HOW TO OBSERVE:
Do not drive while you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It puts not only you at risk, but everyone else around you. Think before you act. Use &DruggedDrivingPreventionMonth or to post on social media.
Accidents caused by driving under the influence are, of course, totally preventable. This year and every year to follow, commit to act responsibly and drive safely. Here are a few tips to keep in the back of your mind as you attend holiday parties and other get-togethers this year.

I recently attended a family funeral. There, I was reminded of something my great grandfather always said, “work like you will live forever, live like you will die tomorrow.”
He was a minister and he was spiritually prepared for that eventuality and helped others to be prepared too.
It led me to consider what I do to help people prepare. If you feel you need some assistance planning to resolve your affairs you can contact me for a consultation. 304-541-9120.

Here are 5 things to keep in mind when faced with a child custody case.

1. You need to avoid fighting about custody in front of the children.

The welfare of the children is what is important to you or you wouldn’t be in this situation. Looking out for their best interest includes keeping them out of this conflict. When you keep your cool it can only help your child custody case.

2. Don’t post about it on social media.

I can’t tell you the amount of times this has damaged child custody cases that I’ve been involved in. It’s been used against my clients & I’ve used it against our opponents.
Keep off of social media when it comes to family matters.
Don’t post pictures of you drinking. Don’t say bad things about the others involved. It cannot help you but it may damage your case.

3. Don’t talk badly about the other family members in front of the children.

If you take the high road it is a great way to provide a better and more healthy environment for the children & it is a great opportunity to show the Court that you are the one who can provide that.

4. Keep a journal.

If the others involved are not acting in the best interest of the children keep track of it so it can be properly presented to the Court. You need a proper record of what happened. If you don’t have an accurate account of what happened, your credibility with the Court will be damaged.
The best way to do this is get in the habit of putting it in writing in a journal-as it happens. When, where and who was there to witness it.

5. You may need an attorney.

Child custody cases can be complicated and intimidating. Your interests may be better served by having an attorney to represent you. If you find yourself with child custody issues, Starcher Law Offices are here to help you.
