A major win for public health and state authority in the Fourth Circuit! ⚖️

In Perry v. Marteney (April 8, 2026), the Court upheld West Virginia’s mandatory school vaccination law—confirming that limiting exemptions to medical grounds does not violate the First Amendment and serves a compelling state interest. 🏛️

This decision reinforces states’ broad authority to protect the health and safety of students and preserves long-standing vaccination precedent.

Kudos to Bowles Rice attorneys Will Lorensen, who argued on behalf of the appellants; Corey Palumbo, who was on brief and helped prep and was in attendance for the argument; and Robert J. Kent and Leigh Anne Wilson, who were also on brief.
