Let’s Develop Lexington County Responsibly! Don’t be swayed by deep pockets and big investors. And, most importantly, GET OUT AND VOTE. 🗳️
📣 ‼️ KNOW THE FACTS BEFORE YOU BELIEVE THE BILLBOARDS, MAILERS, and SOCIAL MEDIA ads 💰 💰 💰!
The NEW group with BIG money and DEEP POCKETS 💰 , “PLAN Lexington County Responsibly”, who popped up just in time for the June 9 Primary election wants you to :
“Blame County Council for Traffic and Roads.”
Sounds simple.
But is it actually true? 🤔
Here’s a question EVERY voter should ask:
Who controls MOST paved roads in Lexington County?
Here are THE FACTS:
📍 SCDOT (the State) maintains approximately 1,555 miles of paved roads in Lexington County.
📍 Lexington County maintains approximately 706 paved miles (many within subdivisions & neighborhoods) plus about 597 dirt-road miles.
That means:
🚦 MOST all of the paved roads, widening projects, intersections, signals, and traffic-flow improvements are largely under STATE control through SCDOT.
And NOT the County Council.

🙋♀️ So, what does County Council control?
🏡 COUNTY Growth & zoning decisions that need 5 votes to change any zoning
📏 A FEW examples of Growth & Zoning Decisions made since 2020 by a MAJORITY on County Council WORKING for RESPONSIBLE GROWTH include:
1️⃣ REDUCED density from 12 homes per acre to 4 homes per acre in many areas, with some roads allowing only 3, 2, or even 1 home per acre depending on road classification. (2021)
2️⃣ 🚑 Required ADEQUATE SERVICES to be available for EMS, fire, schools, law enforcement & school capacity BEFORE new developments can be permitted- also known as Concurrency. (2024)
3️⃣ 🌳 ADDED PROTECTIONS through INCREASED buffers, setbacks, stormwater requirements while also establishing minimum lots sizes to better manage responsible growth. (2021, 2024)
4️⃣ 📖 UPDATED the Comprehensive PLAN -which was OVERDUE for a FULL Update- to guide Lexington County’s future -that was OUTDATED (2022)
———
And here’s something many people don’t know…
⏳ Growth management zoning changes TAKE TIME
Changes made are not retroactive, meaning on the date of a change it applies to any development application from that date moving forward.
So, MOST of the subdivisions we see being built today were approved under older zoning rules years ago prior to the changes made. It will take some time to more consistently see these changes in reality.
Also by STATE law, developers are allowed up to 5 years to break ground from the date of permitting with extension possibilities and County Council has NO say as this is per STATE law.

🤔 QUESTION FOR LEXINGTON COUNTY VOTERS:
Can you imagine how many residential lots would be in Lexington County’s pipeline today if Beth Carrigg, Larry Brigham, Darrell Hudson, Charli Wessinger, Glen Conwell along with former council members Scott Whetstone and Bimbo Jones had NOT worked together in 2021 to lower residential density from up to 12 homes per acre to 4 homes per acre based on street classification?
📌 Today’s pipeline: somewhere around 21,767 residential lots
📌 At the previous allowed density?
Potentially 65,000+ lots.
THAT 2021 decision of reducing density mattered for the future of Lexington County!
👏 Thank you to the council members listed above that work hard to make that happen! THEY are making changes to manage growth and do have a PLAN despite what misleading messaging “PLAN Lexington County Responsibly” and some of the challenger candidates are pushing with their agendas.
Also fair to note:
ALL of the CHALLENGERS running against Beth Carrigg, Larry Brigham, and Glen Conwell have TIES either to the BUILDING or REAL ESTATE INDUSTRY.

BIG Question to THINK about…
❓ Why is the NEW group, “ Plan Lexington County Responsibly (PLCR)”, that has popped up just before a CRITICAL June 9 primary pushing out misleading information on their multiple billboards, multiple mailers, social media ads and videos , website, hired political strategist firm, etc💰?
❓ Is the new PLCR group UNHAPPY with the zoning CHANGES INCUMBENTS passed and CONTINUE to PUSH for ADDITIONAL CHANGES to help MANAGE GROWTH in Lexington County? 🏡 💰 💰 💰 ?
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:
For whatever reason the people behind “PLCR” decided to start a group right before the June 9 primary, the FACT is they have ALOT of MONEY 💰 💰 💰 to work with because billboards, multiple mailers, digital ads and videos and HIRING First Tuesday Strategies Political Firm to manage things is NOT CHEAP to do! 💰 💰
