Re-Elect Angela Capone Champion Town Justice I'm seeking Re-Election as Town of Champion Justice. I have an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice as well as a Bachelors Degree in Human Services.

I became a certified paralegal in 2021, and I'm looking to further my education in Law Some of my areas of study include Criminal Administrative Procedure, Introduction to Substance Abuse, Juvenile Delinquency, Alternatives to Incarceration, Mental Health and the Law, Criminal Evidence, Domestic Relations Law and Civil Litigation. I grew up in West Carthage and graduated from Carthage Central. I m

oved out of state for 7 years but decided to move back because of the area, and the community. I knew I wanted to raise my kids here. The job of a Town Justice is to hold arraignments, execute information, renders decisions in non-jury cases, sentences criminal and issues warrants for arrest. A Town Justice imposes fines and maintains order in the courtroom. I plan to uphold the law fairly and without bias or prejudice.

Posting again because my view has not changed.

Bail Reform- On January 1, 2020 New York State passed the new bail law. The new bail reform was designed to eliminate pretrial detention and cash bail as an option. What does this mean you ask? The law provisions state; for most misdemeanors and nonviolent felonies cash bail is no longer permitted. Judges must release individuals charged with those crimes with no cash bail, either on their own recognizance or with release conditions designed to ensure that the individual will return to court.

If elected as the Justice for the Town of Champion I will take an oath to keep an open mind to all that come in front of me. I will look to seek the truth and uphold the law. I will determine what is fair and just.

With this being said, I want to help maintain a safe community. The Town of Champion is a place that people care about. It’s a Town where people want to raise their family and they feel safe. 17 years ago I choose to move back to this community because of those reasons and would not change that.

We’re lucky to live in a Town where we can let our kids go outside to play. We are fortunate that we have neighbors that watch out for us, our kids, and our homes.

I will continue to serve the community in a fair, educated, and honest manner while upholding the law.

Good afternoon Residents of the Town of Champion and Village of West Carthage.

Did you know that the Town of Champion hears cases for the Town of Champion and the Village of West Carthage. The Village of West Carthage Court dissolved in December of 2017.

Judge Young and I handle over 800 cases a year. I would be honored to be re-elected as your Town of Champion Justice for another 4 years.

Being a Town Justice means you need to be present for court every Thursday. This isn’t a part-time position that can be done from afar.

I can say i’ve only missed 2 Thursdays in my 4 years. Im present every week because I work for you, the residents. You deserve a Judge that is committed, responsible, and hard working.

The Town of Champion deserves a Town Justice who is fair, impartial, and deeply committed to upholding the law with integrity. During my time serving as your Town Justice, I have worked to ensure that every individual who comes before the court is treated with respect, dignity, and equality under the law.

My approach has always been guided by three principles: fairness, accountability, and community trust. I have handled each case carefully, applying the law consistently and without bias, while ensuring that justice is served efficiently and compassionately.

As your Town Justice, I’ve taken pride in maintaining a courtroom that reflects the values of our community — where order, understanding, and fairness prevail. I have also remained committed to continuous learning, staying current with legal updates and state requirements to better serve the people of Champion.

Re-electing me means keeping experience, professionalism, and integrity on the bench. I understand our town, our people, and the responsibility that comes with administering justice locally.

I am honored to serve the residents of the Town of Champion, and I respectfully ask for your continued trust and your vote for re-election as Town Justice.

Fair. Impartial. Dedicated to Champion.

I have the privilege of sitting on CAP court once a week. CAP court is a centralized court that hears cases that are scheduled and defendants that are arrested on that date to ensure quick legal counsel. CAP court Is held 365 days a year and at the metro jefferson public safety building.

In the past Judges would be called out in the middle of the night to do an arraignment. Now judges that are specially trained, sit at CAP court to hear cases.

I hear cases that can be anywhere between driving without a license to criminal possession of a weapon. In the past 3 years I’ve presided over 200 cases.

I can and still get called out in the middle of the night but it’s far less than it used to be to be.

We as judges have authority to release defendants on their own recognizance, remand them with bail or remand them without bail.

Every case is treated on an individual basis no matter the case. A great Judge hears all the facts and makes a decision solely based on facts and law.
