Great tour of Rainier Pure Beef Company at the Port of Woodland this week.

The company processes more than 1 million pounds of beef each week, employs 261 people, and continues investing in our local communities and economy. It was impressive to see the innovation, workforce, and commitment to agriculture and food production right here in Southwest Washington.

Longview Fire Department Has provided a update regarding the Emergency at Nippon! Cowlitz County News has also obtained additional photos. Multiple injuries have occured.

From Longview Fire:

UPDATED 5/26, 9:37 am: Longview Fire Department is responding to a hazardous materials incident at Nippon Dynawave Packaging, 3401 Industrial Way, following an implosion involving a vat of chemical treatment product at approximately 7:18 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials say there is no immediate threat to the public.

Multiple people suffered chemical burns and other injuries and were transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview and PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver. The extent of the injuries is not fully known at this time.

Fire crews and a Hazardous Materials Team remain on scene working with Nippon Dynawave employees to mitigate the product and container involved.

Responding agencies include Longview Fire Department, Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue, the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, and other emergency responders. The response includes five fire engines, seven ambulances, a Hazardous Materials Team, and four chief officers.

More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Great spending time at Dolly Days with the United Way of Lewis County and Lewis County Rotary Foundation supporting the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and early learning opportunities for children in our community!

Reading early helps build stronger students, stronger families, and brighter futures. As a father, I know how important it is to encourage a love of reading at a young age.

While Americans are still traveling in large numbers this Memorial Day weekend (45 million), higher fuel prices are clearly impacting family budgets, especially in Washington state where gas prices continue to far outpace the national average.

AAA projects nearly 39 million Americans will travel by car this Memorial Day weekend despite fuel prices reaching some of the highest levels in four years. Nationally, gas prices are averaging around $4.55–$4.56 per gallon.

FACT #1: Washington drivers are paying significantly more. Washington now has average gas prices at almost $6/gallon ($6.09/gallon In Chehalis) more than $1 higher than the national average.

FACT #2: Since 2023 and Washington state Democrats' implementation of their ineffective Climate Commitment Act (CCA) program, plus their massive new and annual gas tax increases, Washington’s fuel prices have remained among the highest in the nation and far outpacing national fuel cost trends.
