Update on Scheduled Power Outages
NPPD believes they have found a solution to avoid the scheduled power outages. We appreciate all the effort NPPD has made to assist us.
While we don't expect an outage, please be aware that its still possible to have a brief outage.
Thank you for your patience as we make this transition!

SCHEDULED POWER OUTAGES

Power outages have been scheduled for:

Monday, October 19th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

Wednesday, October 21st from 9:00 am to 10:00 am

NPPD has scheduled these outages to replace equipment in the electric substation south of the river in support of the City voltage upgrade project.
We apologize for the inconvenience this causes for you.

The voltage upgrade project is necessary to allow redundant power supply to the city. Our neighboring utility, Southern Power District, is upgrading their transmission system to 69 kV, which is a more efficient voltage. We rely on Southern Power for backup electricity if our system is damaged by a storm or needs maintenance. Our voltage conversion allows Central City to match the improvements being made around the region and to maintain a backup power source.
Southern Power District has been very supportive of Central City in so many ways, and we appreciate the opportunity to maintain a close connection to their system.
NPPD has provided several years of planning and coordination to support our voltage conversion. We appreciate the many professionals in the NPPD system who have provided essential expertise to the project.
While we have experienced a few hiccups during this project, its completion will provide for more efficient and reliable power for generations to come. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we finish this important conversion.

10/14/2026

We apologize for the extended power outage today. The outage is related to the final conversion of the electric system from 34.5 kV to 69 kV. A problem occurred in the switching process. We are working with NPPD to determine the cause of the incident. However, all power should be restored and we are sorry for the difficulty this caused.

10/14/2026

The city is currently walking through a checklist with NPPD to re-energize power after an incident at a substation earlier today. If no problems are found power should be up within 2 hours.

10/14/2026

The city is working with NPPD to safely restore power. We apologize for the delay. The system needs to be tested to ensure it can safely be re-energized. We are pushing NPPD to provide a specific timeframe and will pass that along as soon as we can.
