I can't take credit for this but it is awfully coincidental!

UNI ranked No. 1 in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report
For the first time, the University of Northern Iowa has been named the No. 1 public regional university in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report.

The 2027 Best Colleges rankings recognize UNI’s strong graduation rates, commitment to student success and exceptional value for students and families. UNI’s four-year graduation rate is more than 25 percentage points higher than similar universities nationwide, and one in eight UNI students now graduates in three years.

UNI also earned recognition as:
No. 4 among Midwest regional universities for supporting veterans and active-duty service members
No. 6 among Midwest regional universities for the value provided to in-state students
The recognition comes as UNI welcomes its largest freshman class in nearly a decade and reaches its highest overall enrollment since 2020.

Very busy day in the office today! I'm meeting with five clients to execute their estate planning documents and have another appointment with an existing client to work on updating her estate planning documents. Trying to work in a variety of other work in between and, perhaps, later tonight.

I appreciate the continued referrals from Marc Banks and Ed Abodeely with Ameriprise Financial, Craig Burtis with Diamond Capital Wealth Management Group, Beth Moores with Beth Moores Financial, Lori Schlotfelt with State Farm Insurance, and numerous friends and clients.

As you many of you may know, I have been teaching Business Law at Kirkwood Community College and Business Law & Ethics at Upper Iowa University for several years. As chance should happen, I have been offered a full-time teaching position with the University of Northern Iowa as an Assistant Professor of Practice in Business Law to begin this Fall. I'm very excited for this opportunity and have been somewhat overwhelmed by the support and welcoming attitude I've had from the staff and faculty at UNI so far.

Though I won't be able to continue teaching at Kirkwood or Upper Iowa, I do plan to continue my private practice, albeit in a limited capacity. I'll continue to provide services for estate planning (Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, etc.), small business/non-profit organization (Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, Partnership Agreements, etc.) , and other issues as I feel are appropriate.

I look forward to the opportunity to continue to work with my existing and future clients in and around East Central Iowa. Thank you and enjoy your day!

I work with a number of other professionals (bankers, attorneys, accountants, financial advisors, insurance agents, etc.) to try to bring our mutual clients a coordinated estate planning effort. Today I received a call from Beth Moores of BMF Tax & Accounting, LLC to help one of her clients. Unfortunately, Beth's client is dealing with terminal health issues and has serious concerns about her existing estate plans. As the client is unable to travel, I will be meeting with her and her husband in their home to review their existing legal documents and answer any questions that they may have. This is a little unusual but, in light of their circumstances, I'm happy to make this accommodation to help bring them some comfort that their concerns are being addressed.

BMF Tax & Accounting is a full-service tax firm. If you have accounting and/tax questions you can contact Beth and her staff at:

I had a really nice meeting with a couple of new estate planning clients today. When we were done and they were heading out the door the wife asked if she could get a hug. That's not an everyday occurrence but I'll take it as a compliment!

Signage is on the door! Looks pretty good if I do say so myself!

Had a nice meeting with new clients who were referred to me by a former client. Coincidentally, both my former client and the new client are former classmates of mine, so I had the bonus of reconnecting as well!
Client referrals are always the best!

If words cannot repay the debt we owe these men and women, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to battle and to final sacrifice.
