Florida Dominates 2026 Best Cities for Retirees
Florida continues to stand out as a top retirement destination, according to WalletHub’s 2026 ranking of the best U.S. cities for retirees. Four Florida cities ranked in the national Top 10, seven made the Top 25, and all 11 Florida cities evaluated finished within the Top 100.
The biggest winners were Orlando at #1, Miami #2, Tampa #3, and Fort Lauderdale #8. Cape Coral ranked #13, St. Petersburg #16, and Pembroke Pines #22.
Florida cities scored particularly well because of affordability, recreational opportunities, health care, and tax advantages. Florida has no individual state income tax and no state estate or inheritance tax, which can make the state especially attractive to retirees.
Orlando ranked #2 nationally for affordability and #11 for health care, while Miami and Tampa received high marks for activities and recreation. Cape Coral and Port St. Lucie also have particularly large populations of residents age 65 and older.
WalletHub evaluated 182 U.S. cities using 45 factors covering affordability, activities, quality of life, and health care. The report emphasizes that retirees should consider not only taxes and living costs, but also health care, transportation, climate, recreation, and proximity to family when deciding where to retire.
