Regional Native Public Defense Regional Native Public Defense Corporation (RNPDC) is a Native-led non-profit law firm.

Regional Native Public Defense Corporation (RNPDC) is a Native-led non-profit law firm headquartered in Cass Lake, Minnesota. It was established to provide innovative criminal defense representation to members of federally recognized tribes living in and around the Leech Lake and White Earth reservations. RNPDC seeks a solution for the overrepresentation of Native people in the criminal justice system. With an indigenous worldview and deep roots in the community, we pursued a new kind of justice… one that brought attorneys and staff together as frontline advocates for victims of unjust systems designed to perpetuate intergenerational family separation, poverty, and racial discrimination.

"When you hear the drum, you feel the spirit of your ancestors walking beside you."

Our drumkeepers are sacred, especially in these modern times. Our songs are sacred, it's important to keep them alive. The drum represents many things in our Anishinaabe culture, lets band together and let the drum heal us, one song at a time.

This weekend at our 3rd Annual Our Voice Restored event, our very own Leech Lake Tribal College Drum Group will be performing. Please come out and support our drummers and their backup singers. Show them the love and respect they so much deserve! Welcome LLTC Drum group, we can't wait to have you as our guest this weekend.

Please join us on Saturday, October 3rd from 11-3pm Hobson Memorial (Beaux Arts Ballroom) at Bemidji State University for our community event.

Please give a warm welcome to our special guest Nicole Roberts aka ✨Ms. MAKWA ✨as she will be our MC for the 3rd Annual Our Voices Restored event - this Saturday October 3rd at the Hobson Memorial (Beaux Arts Ballroom) at Bemidji State University from 11-3pm!

As of 2022, Ms. Roberts is an alumni of our local Leech Lake Tribal College who also now works there as an Outreach Recruiter and Admissions/Transfer Support person. Her educational background includes Community Organization in Social Justice, Traditional Ecological knowledge, higher education and arts. She is currently continuing her education at UMD for Tribal Administration and Governance. Whew, go Nicole! 👏

Not only is she educated, but starting in 2025 she has continuously uplifted and educated our youth and children by using her social media platforms to teach ECE Anishinaabemowin as Ms. Makwa. 🐻❤️

Let's welcome her as she will be covering our event this weekend. Come out, share a meal and make a new friend. We can't wait to have her and see the energy she brings to our community event!

Lets talk about voting! If you are a US Citizen, over the age of 18 years old, and NOT currently incarcerated in Minnesota, YOU CAN VOTE.

Elections are coming, are you registered to vote? Where do you vote and who is on the ballot? These are all good questions - all of which can be answered by visiting Vote411.org. You can find your polling location, dates of the upcoming elections and who the candidates are!

If you want to speak to someone who is knowledgeable on voting and voting rights, come out to our event on October 3rd, 2026 at the Hobson Memorial Building (Beaux Arts Ballroom) in Bemidji, MN and meet our friend Sam Streukens, a Civic Engagement Director from League of Women Voters of Minnesota. Watch his short video below!
