Today we are celebrating Tick Segerblom, our Lifetime Achievement Award recipient!

“My dad has spent his entire life fighting for the same rights that NJA has as a mission–to protect the Seventh Amendment, protect consumers and help people who would not otherwise have recourse against corporations and insurance companies if a trial lawyer didn’t represent them. In 2025, he tried his last case–a jury trial in federal court representing a black teacher fired by CCSD. This trial resulted in the largest verdict of his career and was a perfect ending to his law practice.” - Eva Segerblom, NJA's past president, writing for NJA's The Advocate.

Today we are celebrating Selena Torres-Fossett, our Consumer Advocate of the Year!
“Selena Torres-Fossett has emerged as one of the most visible consumer advocates in Nevada’s Legislature, blending her background as an educator with a policy focus that prioritizes working families, transparency and economic fairness. Since first being elected in 2018 to represent Assembly District 3 in Clark County, Torres-Fossett has built a legislative record that reflects a consistent concern for how public policy impacts everyday Nevadans—especially those navigating rising costs, access to services and economic inequality….

Her recognition as “Consumer Advocate of the Year” by the Nevada Justice Association underscores the broader reach of her work beyond the Legislature. This honor reflects her efforts that are aligned with protecting individuals from unfair practices, promoting accountability and ensuring that legal and economic systems remain accessible to ordinary citizens. Such recognition suggests that her advocacy resonates not only with constituents but also with organizations focused on justice and consumer protection.” - , writing for NJA's The Advocate.

Today we are celebrating Kimball Jones, our Trial Lawyer of the Year!
“It’s one thing to have great clients or great facts—it’s quite another thing to be able to convince other people to see the best in your case as well. Kimball does that.

If I have learned anything from Kimball over the years, it is that few of us understand the value of harms and losses quite like him. Kimball has an innate ability to truly see people. Kimball sees their motivations and their hopes, but his greatest quality is the ability to see their inherent dignity…It’s one thing to be able to see those qualities in your clients—it’s something far more difficult to get others to see the same thing.

Kimball Jones is more than just a trial lawyer. He is a fierce advocate, he is a protector and he is a friend. For all these reasons, Kimball Jones is our Trial Lawyer of the Year.” Jacqueline R. Bretell, Esq. , writing for NJA’s The Advocate.

Today we are celebrating Barbara Gallagher, our Trial Lawyer of the Year!

“In an era where legal success is often measured in size–larger firms, larger teams and larger results–it is easy to lose sight of what truly defines a trial lawyer. For Barbara…the answer is simple: a trial lawyer is the one who shows up for every moment, every challenge and every client.

Barbara’s career represents the best of our profession. She does not simply seek justice in the courtrooms, she builds it moment by moment from the first meeting to the final award. In recognizing Barbara as Trial Lawyer of the Year, the legal community is acknowledging more than a remarkable result. It recognizes a model of practice that is increasingly rare, deeply necessary and defined not by size but by accountability, connection and courage.

In Elko, far from the resources of major legal markets, Barbara has built a practice that reflects the highest ideals of the profession. Her work serves as a reminder that the essence of trial lawyering is not found in the size of the firm or the magnitude of the result but in the willingness to stand shoulder to shoulder with a client and see a case through to the end.” Jennifer Morales , writing for NJA’s The Advocate.
